The Crown and Thistle is a 16th century traditional village pub and restaurant in the heart of Great Chesterford just 3 miles north of Saffron Walden, Essex.
We're an independent, family run freehouse and, while we have all the charactor you'd expect from a traditional village pub, our food is perhaps a little different.
Thai food has been at the heart of what we do for over 20 years. Our Thai chefs are extremely skilled & trained in Thailand and prepare our dishes fresh to order, using fresh ingredients and locally sourced produce wherever we can.
From fragrant Thai curries and stirfries to noodles, dumplings and plenty of dishes that can be adapted to suit every dietary requirement, our menu brings a little taste of Thailand to Great Chesterford.
And because we're still a pub at heart, you don't have to just come for dinner. Whether it's a pint at the bar, a glass of wine with friends, a quick drink after work or meal with the family, you're always welcome.
The Crown and Thistle
Being an independent free house means we can choose what we like and keep things a little more personal.
We have four hand pumps with a changing selection of real ales, a huge choice of lagers & pale ales from the taps and a brilliant beer fridge which also consists of many low and no alcohol bottles.
We have carefully chosen wines from Cambridge Wines and an extensive selection of gins of all flavours, served with Fever Tree tonics.
Authentic Thai Food
Our Thai menu is available Monday to Saturday with dishes prepared fresh to order by our Thai chefs.
We use traditional recipes alongside fresh ingredients to create the flavours you'd expect from Thai cooking.
We cater for a range of dietary requirements with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available.
If you have an allergy or specific dietary requirement just let us know when ordering and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Thai food is available for takeaway with direct order through our website and collection available from the pub.
We are also on Just Eat within the local area for collection.
Stone Baked Pizzas
Alongside the Thai menu, we serve home-made pizzas from our traditional Italian stone pizza oven. They are available for those looking for something a little different to Thai food, whether you're dining with us or taking away.
Family & Dog Friendly
We are very much a village pub for everyone.
Families are welcome and we have a fully enclosed garden and patio area where you can enjoy a meal or a drink while the children have some space to play. We have a children's Tiny Thai menu with mild dishes for the younger ones. Dogs are welcome too in our bar and outdoor areas.
We even keep treats behind the bar for a four legged visitors! If your dog is particularly thirsty, keep an eye out for our doggy beer!
Private Hire & Celebrations
From smaller family gatherings to larger celebrations we can cater for a variety of occasions at the Crown & Thistle.
Our garden and outdoor areas can work particularly well for summer gatherings and we can offer buffet options for parties and private events. If you're planning a birthday, family party, wake, work event or simply an excuse to get everyone together speak to us and will be happy to discuss what is possible.
